Pulmonary Rehab is a comprehensive, medically supervised program designed to assist patients in regaining their physical capacity and improving the quality of life of those who have chronic lung diseases. Additionally, patients are provided with the educational resources that will help them to make health decisions that can help slow and stabilize the progression of their lung disease.
In combination with proper medication and diet, exercise is of vital importance to improving lung function, decreasing symptoms, and stopping the progression of lung disease. Our staffing includes master-level exercise physiologists, a physician, respiratory therapists, registered dieticians, registered pharmacists, and case managers. Together we create a multidisciplinary team that is well-versed in caring for individuals with lung disease. Our facility is located on the first floor of the hospital in the Heart and Vascular Center.
Pulmonary Rehab provides monitoring of individualized exercise prescriptions so that each visit is individually tailored to you. We also provide educational programs to assist patients in risk factor modifications.
Classes are taught by multidisciplinary teams, including exercise physiologists, registered pharmacist, registered dietitian, respiratory therapists, and stress counselor. Courses include smoking cessation, medication review, stress reduction, bronchial hygiene, anatomy of the lungs, diabetes, nutrition and other topics of interest to pulmonary patients and their families.
Patients attend exercise three days per week, (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday), for one hour. There are education classes offered throughout the month that may increase the appointment to two hours.
Anyone who has had any one of these events/procedures may join the program with a written order from their physician:
